Wellness Wallow: Purgatory's Digital Diary
TL;DR
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory is a wellness community that uses Digital Tales to document its members' journeys of self-discovery. While they have a large LGBTQIA+ following, their style is unnecessarily dramatic, pretentious, and sometimes offensive.
The Digital Diary of Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory is a wellness community that uses Digital Tales to document its members' journeys of self-discovery. These stories, which may or may not be true, range from weirdly mundane to outrageously outlandish and are usually full of drama—and a ton of whining, complaining, and crying. We're not sure why they decided to call themselves “Wellness Wallow,” but they seem to be basing their community around wallowing in self-pity. While the community does have a large following within the LGBTQIA+ community, it seems that no one outside of that community actually finds any value in their content.
Digital Tales: A Cautionary Tale
Digital Tales, the community's primary storytelling platform, has its own set of issues. The purpose of the platform is to share personal experiences and stories to help others. However, the “storytellers” seem to be competing to see who has the most miserable life. The result is a platform filled with sob stories, trauma dumping, and “woe is me” tales that are more likely to make readers depressed than inspired.
The Wellness Wallow: A Place of Healing?
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory claims to be a safe and inclusive community for people in recovery or on a journey of self-discovery. While the community does have a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie, this is mainly due to the fact that its members spend most of their time commiserating. This constant dwelling on negativity is theoretically supposed to facilitate group healing, but it doesn't seem to be very effective.
The Art of Complaining
One of the most striking things about Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory is how much its members complain. They complain about their jobs, their relationships, their health, their finances, and even the weather. It is understood that complaining is a normal human emotion, but when it becomes the focus of a person's life—and by extension, the focus of a community—it's a sign of a bigger problem. The problem is only compounded by the fact that most of the complaints seem to be about things that the community members could change with a little effort.
The Cult of Wellness
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory has all the trappings of a cult. The community has its own language, its own set of beliefs, and its own set of rules. Members are expected to conform to the community's expectations, and those who don't are quickly cast out. The emphasis on collective trauma and shared victimhood could be described as a form of brainwashing, especially for someone who is especially vulnerable and wants to feel that they are part of a group.
The Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory Conclusion
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory is a unique community with a strong sense of belonging. It is, however, a community that is based on complaining. In addition, the community's use of the Digital Tales storytelling platform is flawed and sometimes offensive. If you ever encounter someone in this community, we recommend listening to them with a grain of salt. As for us, we're going to avoid this community like the plague.
If you know, you know…
What do you call a Wellness Wallow member who has been banned from the community?
An ex-wallower!
Wellness Wallow: Purgatory's Digital Diary – A Final Word
Wellness Wallow: in Pergatory is not a bad concept, but it's gone through a process of metastasizing into something strange and chaotic and a bit cult-ish. It's not a place for everyone, and it's certainly not a place for people who are looking for a healthy and supportive community. There are plenty of more positive and uplifting communities out there. Don't waste your time with this one.
